Meadowline

This mountain modern home is situated in a meadow surrounded by aspen forest on the northern slope of Red Mountain, just south of Crested Butte. Approaching from the uphill side, roof forms slope back to the hill, following the contours of the land. Initially, the house has a modest visual impact. As you round the corner to approach the covered entry, both the architecture and the view are dramatically revealed. A lower walkout level captures the same cross valley views as the living spaces above. Four large lift and slide doors in the main living space encourage easy movement between indoors and outdoors.

A clear delineation of public and private spaces is the hallmark of this design. The flow of the floor plan is a response to the homeowner’s daily routine. The master suite is at the far end of the home, away from the entry, providing maximum privacy. A well-lit pool and exercise room was a key element of the design and is placed central to the home. Bedrooms, bathrooms and a living area for guests are on the lower level, which has access to a private lower level patio.

On the exterior, cedar and metal siding combine with an exposed glulam and steel structure to create a unified, modern palette. Inside, warm wood floors and ceilings echo these materials, complementing the glulam and steel beams in spaces softly illuminated by northern light.

Inside, the diffuse northern light softly illuminates the warm wood floors and ceilings, while the glulam wood and steel structure support generously proportioned panels of glass, giving both architectural clarity and breathtaking views to its occupants.
