Whetstone Vista

Built on two combined lots in the Buckhorn Ranch subdivision, this home abuts a large parcel of ranchland to the west, beyond which is the broad side of massive and beautiful Whetstone mountain. From the inception of the project, the owners envisioned capturing that iconic view from both the living room and the primary bedroom—and that vision shaped the entire design.

To achieve the contemporary look they desired, the owners worked strategically within Buckhorn Ranch’s design guidelines to comply with roof pitch requirements. Combining gable and shed roof forms, this compact house checks all the boxes for the young active family who occupy it; large garage and mudroom, two guest bedrooms, a dedicated office, exercise room and private primary suite situated on the living level.

Upstairs, the formal entry, living, kitchen and dining rooms each occupy their own space and feature unique views. Though open and airy, the great room is clearly defined through a thoughtful combination of exposed glulam beams, steel structural elements, and varied ceiling heights. A large sliding glass door in the living room opens onto a generous west-facing deck—an ideal space for outdoor living during three seasons of the year.
